In the past, sleep was something that happened out of necessity and pleasure, and that part hasn’t changed. But it happened in the background, in passing, something I wasn’t particularly thinking about.
Newly found this year is that I now have a relationship with sleep. She’s always calling my name, always wanting to spend more time with me, and my with her. Sleep is now something that has to be managed, something I long for, something I think about actively.
In the past sleep was rarely prioritized. It’s not that I wouldn’t get enough, but now it’s a priority. I shape my days to find amounts of sleep and rest, have rearranged my life to become a morning person.
I’ve long thought about having a relationsihp with Lake Superior and the sun. But now it’s also a relatinoship with sleep. And we’re pretty good to each other. Now, I plan dates with sleep and commit to them. I think I’ll nap now, then I’ll be rejuvinated for the remainder of the day.
Fuel more Sunrises
There is plenty more to come from Year of the Sunrise. You can always add a cup of coffee to keep me going strong in the mornings, or a tank of gas to get me to some new places, as the sun keeps rising.
