My capacity to go it alone seems to have a hard limit. As a teenager I would skateboard and snowboard endlessly, and I love every minute of it. But eventually it got lonely to always go by myself. Photography was next. The Hometown Invasion Tour. A business. And even stone skipping. For a few summers straight I could go stone skipping night after night for hours endlessly amused. But then last summer it became lonely and sad. So now I do it less. Then I start this project, and I’m entirely in the zone and loving every minute of it. But the loneliness is seeping in like it has done on everything else. Do just it a threshold and get bored of something? Am I that far off from being grounded and content in my solitude? Is the next big passion going to have a result that ends in sadness where the excitement is gone and I’m no longer amused to go out and to that thing by myself.

When I tell someone I’m photographing every sunrise of 2019 it amuses me when they ask, “But what about the rainy days?”

It’s like when I would say, “I’m going to all 50 states in one year” and people would ask, “But what about Alaska and Hawai’i?”

All. Every. Full stop.
