Musings [215 words]

It’s the second day of summer, and yet I wore my winter hat and camera gloves for most of sunrise.

Mostly I’m thinking of yesterday. It was a good solstice, a damn good solstice. Until the evening when a wave of sadness and loneliness washed over. As I’ve mentioned before, those waves just don’t happen in the morning. Maybe it’s that I wish there was someone there at the end of the day to talk to, to share the thoughts and feelings that occurred throughout the day.

Last night I went to skip stones at Presque Isle, it was quite chilly for the first day of summer, and the skipping conditions weren’t great. As I ate my pasty alone having a romantic evening to myself, that’s when the loneliness kicked in. I was hoping to have a buddy (perhaps a very specific buddy) there to skip with.

Much of this project started with the idea of getting more comfortable with my alone time, of which there is an abundance. And it has worked, but it certainly can’t replace loneliness. I finished my pasty and called it a day, skipping out on the solstice sunset, which I felt some amount of guilt over.

While there has been many lonely sunsets, there’s never been a lonely sunrise.
