Musings [262 words]
Today begins 140 consecutive days of a sunrise before 7:00AM. I think my next vacation will be based on a place where the sun rises late.
Each morning lately I have been trying to squeeze out every possible minute of sleep. Many mornings getting to the beach just as the top of the sun begins to peak over the horizon, and long after the pink clouds have faded. Photographically, that's the part of the sunrise I've been missing, the moment of pinks and oranges in the clouds before the sun breaks the horizon, that's often the best moment. But…. but, sleep.
While I get dressed my head is a broken record, “This sucks. This is the worst. What a stupid commitment.” As I drive to whatever location the broken record continues, “Go back to bed. Go back to bed. Go back to bed.” That first twenty to thirty minutes is just dread (which never really happened during the mornings of inclement weather in February, those mornings were just pure adrenaline). The thoughts continue. Is this worth it? Do I really want to continue with this? Is it time to pull the plug? Just give me one morning to sleep in.
And then I get to where I'm going, get outside, feel the wind on my face, and eventually, on some mornings, feel the warm sun on my face. Then everything changes. It's glorious, it literally refuels the body, mind, and spirit with energy.
… until the next alarm clock goes off, a couple minutes earlier than the day prior.
Fuel more Sunrises
There is plenty more to come from Year of the Sunrise. You can always add a cup of coffee to keep me going strong in the mornings, or a tank of gas to get me to some new places, as the sun keeps rising.
